My grandmother once told me that dairy is terrible for my complexion—safe to say, she wasn’t wrong. Grandparents are always giving out unsolicited advice, especially when it comes to our health, cooking, and most importantly—beauty. In celebration of our grandparents, I went around the office asking some of the Winky Lux team members, what has been the best advice and beauty hacks that they have received from their grandparents.

What are your favorite beauty hacks? I always spritz setting spray before my primer. After applying all my powder products, I spritz one last time as my final step. This helps to melt in all your makeup for a more natural look. What has been the best beauty or skin care advice your grandparents have given you? Drinking Green Tea every day can help clear up your skin and keep acne away. What beauty advice would you pass on to our readers? Never forget to wear SPF, even during winter. Wearing SPF prevents skin damage and wrinkles in your skin.

What are your favorite beauty hacks? Using blush and eye shadow as a lipstick—because, sometimes the perfect shade is in a tube form. Don’t follow the rules, make your own. What has been the best beauty or skin care advice your grandparents have given you? My great-great-great-great Grandma used to say that a woman should always have on a pair of earrings. You can walk out of the house bare-faced but leaving the house without earrings is like being naked. This piece of advice has been passed down for generations. My Great-Grandma is the one who told me about the blush hack. Did these beauty hacks work? Yep, I totally feel naked on the rare occasions I forget to wear earrings. And I totally still use lipstick as both blush and eye shadow.

What are your favorite beauty hacks? Jojoba oil literally changed my life—I have thick hair that gets so dry easily. Jojoba oil brings down the volume and leaves my hair nice and silky. What has been the best beauty or skin care advice your grandparents have given you? Less is more. Both my grandmothers never had on a full face of makeup, but always looked put-together. What beauty advice would you pass on to our readers? Do what feels natural to you at that moment. Whether it’s minimal makeup or full-on drag queen, live your truth.

What are your favorite beauty hacks? Mixing my highlighter and tinted moisturizer on my eyes, (best of both worlds), and topping my lipstick off with a plumper to be that bit EXTRA. What beauty advice would you pass on to our readers? Always take your makeup off and moisturize, even on your drunkest nights. You will stay a queen longer and love yourself.
