Who doesn’t love a meticulously messy braid? How chic did Lauren Conrad look throughout every season of The Hills? Since fall is upon us and waking up and getting ready for the day is slowly becoming harder, Megan Gentry, our braid expert, wanted to help all you babes out and create a how to guide on creating the perfect triple stacked braid.
Brush your hair
Firstly, brush your dry or damp hair. You want your hair to be free of tangles and knots. If you have any loose hairs, lightly spray them with a serum, mist or some water. If you need some extra help, try amika’s The Wizard Detangling Primer, it will help you gather all of your loose hairs, while untangling your hair at the same time.
Gather a section from the back of your hairline
Brush your hair straight back to eliminate any side or center parts. Next, you will want to slide your thumbs through your hair, and gather a section from the front of your hairline—this section should span the width of your forehead.
Split your hair into 2 equal braids
Create the anchor braid
Create 2 fishtail braids
Create two thin, fishtail braids, and connect them with a clear elastic in the middle. Then use your fingers to smooth down any stray hairs to ensure that the braid is tight.
Create a chunky appearance
Gather all four braids, then weave them through the left strand, then cross it under the middle strand. Pull the braided knots lightly apart using your thumb, middle, and index finger, this will help to create a chunky appearance.
Create a standard braid
Braid until you reach the nape of your neck
Loosen the outer strands of the braid
If you want to make your braid fuller or looser, then starting from the end of your braid is the best place to start. Gently tug on the outer strands to loosen them up. For more of a Lauren Conrad look: Mess up the finer hairs at your hairline.
Don’t get too carried away, because, trust us, your braid will loosen on its own throughout the day. If you’re feeling fun and adventures; coil the braid into a bun at the nape of your neck, and secure it with bobby pins.
