We took a few minutes to chat with Sage Charmaine, singer and Winky Lux babe.
How did you get your start in music?
It seemed like ever since I learned how to speak I was singing as well. Like, everything I said had a melody to it (LOL). My entire life has always been focused around anything musical and creative so playing instruments, writing songs, and singing always came naturally to me. When I moved out to California, I just pursued what I wanted: Music! Luckily for me, I’ve built up an amazing team to help me along in my music career, but most of all, without Angie (my bomb ass manager), a sister would be LOST af. She’s the one who’s been pushing me to become a better performer for when I get on stage to dance around and sing for you guys so Y’all can thank her for that! Overall, I’d say that although I had already been working on it for years, I got my true start in music in 2017 when I began working with my producer PJ Bianco and we released “Cherries.” (Go take a listen @SageCharmaine on #Spotify! ;D
What was the inspiration for your music video?
I wanted “Not Really” to be a relatable teenage girl video, which is exactly what I got! The song is about being indecisive, like, you want this guy, but at the same time you don’t. I feel like all girls have been there at one point so I knew that releasing this song and video would be something girls, and even boys, could watch and say “omg same.” For the actual video aesthetics, I got to work with an amazing director named Emma Menzies, who created the perfect mix between crazy girlfriend Sage and sweet and innocent Sage! Basically, I’m nonchalantly effing my mans up while also loving on him at the same time throughout the whole video. Also, if you haven’t seen it, you should, because otherwise,….you’re next.️
What role does makeup play in your everyday life?
I feel like makeup is a huge form of self-expression. I know for me, I started putting makeup on around age 8 as a way of expressing my mood and emotions. Makeup is such a huge part of my life, and many other people’s, and it’s helped me through so many hard times in my life. If I’m feeling down, I can do anything from gory SFX to huge extravagant drag makeup to express my emotions and feelings. I’d say that in my everyday life, makeup provides a mini-escape for me. If I have a super busy day ahead of me and only have 10 minutes to get ready, I still have a 5-minute time-window to take a vacation to make-up land. Here, I get to calm myself down AND prepare my face for the day! I also love that with makeup, you can go from natural, beauty-amplifying looks to crazy, 8 colors of eyeshadow and an extravagant wing on your lids look. This is why I love Winky Lux’s makeup so much – since the brand sells all kinds of eyeshadow pallets and lipsticks. Not everything is neutrals, and not everything is bright neon colors; there’s a good variety.
What’s your every-day beauty look?
I’d say right now, my everyday look is bold, feathered brows, soft eyes (usually I use shade goldish-pink shade from Winky Lux’s Bellini eye shadow palette for this), mascara, and Winky Lux’s flower balm in shade PINK. My everyday look changes A LOT, but this is where it’s at right now. (-:
What are you working on now?
I’m constantly in and out of the studio creating more music for everyone to hear! Also, I’ve been doing a lot of rehearsals for upcoming shows that I’m going to be performing at so watch out for those dates via @sagecharmaine on the gram(-:
